artist bio
leia is a mexican-american artist based in los angeles with an mfa from the university of wisconsin, madison. the middle of five children to immigrant field workers turned farmers, she grew up in rural california where she fostered a deep appreciation for the interplay of light and color. she gravitates toward juxtaposition of patterns, bold color, and layers. self-expression through the art of painting and pottery has been a much needed source of relief and escape for leia; it has given the creative side of her brain the outlet it needs to thrive and flourish. with the belief we are comprised of layers of failure which help bring each intricacy of beauty to its surface, she seeks to find this in every piece she creates. her current focus is mixed media on canvas, throwing on the wheel, and slab building. her works have been contracted by television shows such as hbo's "hacks", abc's grey's anatomy spinoff "station 19", and fox's "9-1-1" as well as for commercials for major brands such as credit karma, hilton, and others. she is available for commissioned projects.
